To Encourage Book Gluttony in the Classroom

This is an excellent way to get reluctant readers to value reading particularly when there is a poor reading culture at home. Many of my students would fall into this category so this year I am going to trial this in the classroom, with a special focus on my 10 G (Gand T). I will keep you posted on the ways of getting this up and running; and the pitfalls.Would also love to hear from anyone who is using this networking site in the classroom successfully! See More

Shakespeare can be daunting for anybody let alone the teenager of today. English has evolved so much since "The Bard's brilliant compositions that the text speak of our modern youth is a far cry from the iambic pentameter riddled verse that we espouse to be great. What is so great when you can't understand half the words on the page let alone the apparently universally relevant ideas? This is where we the teacher have to put aside our dreams of reading the poetry aloud to a potentially…See More

Technology in the Classroom

Any change is difficult. We are all now being positioned to embrace new technologies whether we like them or not with the advent of Laptops for Learning. The fact is though, this is hard work. Not because we are not capable but rather because it is easier and less time consuming, initially, to teach how we have always been teaching. The way we 'learnt' to teach from our own experience of learning as students at school, ourselves; or at university,if we can call that learning to teach! We have to…See More
